Sharing
Stashii has two sharing modes: public link sharing (anyone with the link can view) and People invite sharing (restricted to specific contacts). You can share files, folders, and collections.
Share with a Public Link
Use public links when anyone who receives the link should be able to view the content.
On web:
- Select a file or folder in Library.
- Click Share.
- Choose Public Link.
- Toggle public sharing on.
- Copy the generated link.
- Send the link to anyone.
On mobile:
- Long-press an item, or open it and tap the share action.
- Choose Share Public.
- Toggle public sharing on.
- Copy the link.
Public Link Behavior
- Links expire after 90 days by default.
- Expired links can be renewed from the Share modal.
- You can disable a link at any time to revoke access instantly.
Share with People
Use People sharing when access should be restricted to specific contacts you control.
On web:
- Select a file, folder, or collection.
- Click Share.
- Choose People.
- Select one or more contacts from your People list.
- Optionally enable Allow Comments so recipients can leave feedback.
- Click Send — each contact receives an email with access instructions.
On mobile:
- Open the item and tap the share action.
- Choose Share with People.
- Select contacts.
- Send the invite.
Contacts must have an email address to receive invites. Add contacts in [People](./people.md) first.
Revoke Access
- Open the Share modal on the shared item.
- For public links — toggle sharing off or click Disable Link.
- For People shares — remove individual contacts from the access list.
Revocation takes effect immediately.
Recipient Experience
When someone opens a shared link or invite, they see:
- A shared page with the media you selected.
- Previews for images, videos, and documents.
- A Download button (if downloads are allowed).
- A comment section (if comments are enabled for People shares).
- Folder shares display the folder structure so recipients can browse contents.
Some shares may require email verification before the content opens.
Sharing vs Project Collaboration
- Sharing gives view access to specific files or folders. Recipients see a read-only shared page.
- Project collaboration gives ongoing access to a full project workspace where collaborators can add, organize, and manage media.
These are independent — sharing a project item does not create a public link for the project itself. See [Projects](./projects.md) for collaboration details.
